This Police Memorial located in the City Hall plaza was a gift to the city from our friend John R. Burton who also donated the money for the Armed Forces Memorial at Town Point Park. After John F. Kennedy declared May 15th of each year as Peace Officers’

Day, Burton started placing a wreath to fallen officers agasinst the wall of City Hall. Later Burton announced a gift of $10,000 for a proper memorial. The memorial was dedicated on May 15, 1984. Police sources say it cost much more than this amount howev
