Description

DAY 2 QUEER CINEMA FOR PALESTINE PHILLY This event is located at Asian Arts Initiative 1219 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 on Friday November 18, 2022. Program will begin at 7PM and ends at 9PM. Masks are mandatory. Join us as we feature a series of short films made by Arab filmmakers about queer Arab experiences. This night will feature the films Warsha, Mariam, Athar Jiddo, and Yes, Goddess and will be followed by a panel discussion with local Palestinian artists and organizers. The aim of the event is to celebrate queer Arab joy, discuss the intersectionality of these identities often polarized by the West, debunk pinkwashing myths rooted in racism and orientalism, and delve into the political and purposeful use of pinkwashing as a tool of settler-colonialism. This is a fundraising event, with proceeds going to Al Qaws, a Palestinian LGBT+ civil society organization fighting against pinkwashing and advocating for queer Palestinians. Proceeds will also go to Playgrounds for Palestine, a PA-based nonprofit working on re-building destroyed playgrounds for Palestinian children. Suggested donation for each night is $5-25, however, no one will be turned away for lack of funds (BIPOC prioritized). Hosted by Philly Palestine Coalition and Queer Cinema for Palestine Philly Co-presented by: Al Bustan Seeds of Culture, cinéSPEAK, Batikh Batikh, No Evil Eye Cinema, Making Worlds Books, and Asian Arts Initiative. Endorsed by: Workers World Philly, Penn Against the Occupation, Black Alliance for Peace, BDS Philly, Philadelphia Young Communist League, Jewish Voice for Peace Philly, and If Not Now Philly.
