We're a gothic rock/post-punk band looking for a lead singer. Our membership is still congealing, but it looks like we'll have bass, drums, guitar, a utility player who's good on synth and guitar, and a female backup singer. The sound we're aiming for is somewhere between Joy Division's "Transmission," Catherine Wheel's "Black Metallic," PJ Harvey's "Sheela-Na-Gig," and Mclusky Do Dallas -- though probably played a hair trashier. We have a batch of songs that are ready for some spit and polish and, most importantly, your lead vocals. We would like to record some demos and start playing out as soon as possible.
We're looking for someone with stage presence and a voice. You don't need to be a virtuoso, but you'll need to bring some energy. We're open to any gender, though many of our tunes are in drop D, so you'll have to go either low or high. (And some of them will probably take on Sapphic undertones if sung by a woman as they're currently written -- which is fine by us.) You don't need to be a player, but it would help if you've some musical vocabulary. None of us are new to this music thing (we're in our 20s and 30s), so a little shorthand will help us get on the same page a little faster.
Although nothing is set in stone, it looks like our best days to practice will be Wednesday nights and Saturdays in a furnished basement off of Colfax and Yosemite. We would probably like to do two a week until we're all on the same page, and then we can scale back to one.
We understand lead singers are special creatures, but please don't have substance issues.
Hit me up through Craigslist email for questions and comments, and I'll send you back practice recordings and our fakebook.
