SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica Mayor Sue Himmelrich released a statement this week in response to the siege at the nation's capitol, telling residents that officials are monitoring activity in the area. "I am guessing that many of us have been glued to our televisions all day after an unprecedented scene of chaos in our nation's capitol," Himmelrich said. "While Santa Monica embraces peaceful protests, the sort of violence we saw today is unlawful. And it is antithetical to a peaceful, democratic society," she said. "Your City government and your City Council have remained informed and prepared for any activity in Santa Monica since yesterday, and we will remain prepared to keep you safe until the violence in other cities subside," she said.
