Description
Please join SheJumps as we partner with Crow’s Feet: A Mountain Collective to host a Hands-On Ski and Board Wax Workshop at Embark Coworking Community in the Collective Room. Come learn and practice how to wax your skis and boards with us! Geneva Mayall and Eddie Edwards will be our instructors for the night. You bring your skis or board and we will provide the equipment, wax, and instruction, in a welcoming, let’s get stoked for winter, environment. We will learn and perform the process of waxing and discuss general care and maintenance of skis and snowboards. It is worth noting that while we will discuss P-Tex and more intensive repairs, we will not be performing those techniques on our skis or boards at this workshop. This class will be limited to 10 participants due to space and equipment usage so sign up early to save your place! If you do have your own equipment (iron, scrapers, edgers etc.) and want us to take a look and help you figure it out, please feel free to bring it with you. Beverages will be provided by 10 Barrel and Montucky Cold Snacks. Please arrive 10-20 minutes early for check-in and to peruse the Crow’s Feet: A Mountain Collective shop. Geneva Mayall is a four-seasons athlete from river rafting, to trail running, mountain biking, to skiing, she will find any excuse to be outside. Geneva grew up in ski shops where her dad used to work, immersed in the culture (both the positive and negative aspects), and learning from her pops. She was lucky enough to learn everything about the outdoors and taking care of gear from her dad, a role model as one of the few men of color in the industry at the time. Geneva hopes to create safe spaces for everyone to learn how to recreate safely and take care of their gear. When she is not enjoying the outdoors, Geneva's full time job is working with Native American High School students preparing them for life after graduation. Geneva is a strong advocate for women and people of color in her community in hopes to see more diversity in outdoor spaces. Sarah “Eddie” Edwards had the privilege of growing up in Bend and while she has lived and traveled to many other places, Bend is still her favorite. She loves to play outside and roll around in the dirt and snow as much as possible. Her passions are riding bikes and going extremely fast down the trail or ski hills. She loves “type two fun” and a good long sufferfest. You can find her riding until dark on Tiddlywinds in the summer or ripping Cone laps for sunrise in the winter. One of her biggest pleasures in life is to encourage and teach women to push themselves, take on challenges and grow in outdoor spaces. She loves getting other people stoked to get out and get after it. She puts her skills to work as the Manager of Events, Curator of Fun at Crow’s Feet. All participants attending this event must agree to the SheJumps COVID of Conduct. --- SheJumps increases the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities to foster confidence, leadership, and connection to nature and community through free and low-cost outdoor education. We believe in increasing diversity in the outdoors and providing ALL women and girls with the spark that will lead to a lifetime of outdoor learning and empowerment. We welcome all women and girls—transgender and cisgender, as well as non-binary people. SheJumps strives to fight against racism and acknowledges that our events and programs take place on traditional, unceded Indigenous lands. -- Follow SheJumps: Facebook Instagram www.shejumps.org
