Jury Trials Pause In Kendall County Extended Amid Pandemic

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — The 23rd Judicial Circuit Court in Kendall and DeKalb counties has extended its pause of jury trials amid the coronavirus pandemic, the court announced in a press release Thursday. The pause will last through March 1. The court initially paused jury proceedings last November. Chief Judge Robert Pilmer said in the press release that courts will not be reducing any other court operations as was done earlier. He said the decision to continue the pause was made in consultation with Judge Robbin Stuckert, presiding judge in DeKalb County, and was taken as a precaution to minimize the spread of the virus within the courthouses and counties. "Since March, the judges have made extensive use of remote proceedings, and will further increase their use of such technology in order to reduce the number of persons who must enter courthouses," the press release said. The 23rd Circuit Court advises people to visit the Circuit Clerk's website for any information on how to attend court remotely. "Litigants and attorneys should continue to familiarize themselves with the process for remote appearances and use remote appearances whenever necessary in order to minimize the possibility of exposure to the virus," the court said.
