Description

Beatrix Potter's most famous book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit and the 22 volumes that follow it tell stories about the day-to-day lives of animals, coming to life thanks to rich details about how they feel, who they love, and what they eat! The Free Library's Rare Books Department is home to a world-class collection of Potter's original artwork, manuscripts, and correspondence, as well as charming examples of memorabilia and merchandise. At this program, a rare books librarian will discuss Potter's extraordinary career and introduce guests to the collection, including a new mini-exhibit celebrating the 120th anniversary of Potter self-publishing The Tale of Peter Rabbit. We will then talk about how Potter incorporated food into her stories, from Peter Rabbit's garden vegetable theft to Jeremy Fisher's butterfly sandwich, all while enjoying British tea, sandwiches, and pastries. * As this program highlights Potter's artistic achievements, it is recommended for adults and teens with an interest in literature. Be on the look out for additional programming suitable for children and families. * All proceeds from ticket sales go towards supporting the Culinary Literacy's Center programs for youth, neighborhood engagement, and English-language learning. Free tickets are available for SNAP eligible families and for anyone who cannot afford the fee right now but would still like to participate. Please email [email protected] for more information.
