NBC Bay Area’s Speaker Series presents a screening of “No Man’s Land” on Thursday, December 1, an investigative documentary that reveals how a growing number of single fathers raising children on their own and living below the poverty line are often denied basic services – even emergency shelter.
Led by NBC Bay Area Investigative Reporter Candice Nguyen and Investigative Producer Robert Campos, the five-episode investigation follows the stories of three single fathers living in the Bay Area and reveals how they are denied the same emergency services and support often granted to single mothers, especially if the fathers have a criminal history. The 10-month-long investigation led to the reform of a city housing program in Vallejo designed to help parents struggling with homelessness and poverty and secure housing for their families.
The screening will feature a live Q&A with creators of the Peabody Award winning series, Investigative Reporter Candice Nguyen, Investigative Producer Robert Campos and lead photographer Mark Villareal.
