Join your colleagues in professional development, academic conversations and networking with the best in Idaho. Dr. Carol Salva highlights as our keynote presenter for IABE 2023. Dr. Salva is internationally recognized for her work in literacy for students who are underschooled. Dr. Salva will not only offer a keynote but will follow up with two breakout sessions focusing specifically on students with limited formal schooling and those who are long-term English Learners. Breakout sessions focus on specific strategies which target the language of math, science, social studies and English language arts for our beginning and intermediate English Learners. Explore various program models including dual immersion, co-teaching, sheltered instruction and paraprofessional supported classes. Strategies for secondary and elementary multilingual learners who struggle with literacy is also highlighted. Improve instruction through a focus on WIDA, writing content and language success criteria and having a taste of Go-to-Strategies. A special pre-conference event is planned Thursday evening with speakers, appetizers and networking. This small intimate gala will include speakers from our refuge and Latinx communities. This is a great opportunity to learn from Idaho's history while exploring our future. An annual highlight is the scholarship basket silent auction. All proceeds directly scholarship ENL/BE teacher candidates in their last two years of university. Every year IABE is able to scholarship two to three deserving future teachers.
