PART-TIME CLOSING: hours are approximately 4-10PM, 20-25 hours per week About the Company: The Mindful Mutt, a new dog daycare and boarding facility newly opened in Allston Village at 16 Harvard Avenue. Founded in 2018 and serving hundreds of happy clients, The Mindful Mutt has expanded to its first brick-and-mortar location in the heart of Allston. We offer structure-based dog daycare, boarding, and enrichment classes. We are not your average daycare that babysits dogs in a room all day while they run wild. We engage with the dogs, provide positive reinforcement training, and provide high-touch communication and transparency to all of our clients. Founder and fellow dog parent, Deanna Anderson, believes that a truly happy dog benefits from a combination of physical, mental, social, and emotional care, with reliable leadership, consistent routines and boundaries to flourish. Dogs participating in the daycare and boarding programs enjoy enrichment activities and learn new skills throughout the day. The Mindful Mutt enriches your dog's daily routine, reinforces positive behaviors, and can even teach an old dog some new tricks. The Mindful Mutt is a woman- and minority-owned business. JOB DESCRIPTION: Supervision and safety of dogs is of utmost importance. Letting dogs out for potty breaks no matter the weather outside Follow precise written and verbal instructions on feeding, medication and caring for the dogs in our care. Excellent customer service. Check-in/out playgroup clients using our software program and ensure accurate billing for each account Communicate what dogs did that day by writing it down (ex: "learned how to jump over hurdles today!" or "did 4MPH on the treadmill today!") Learning and practicing new training techniques Clean and sanitize thoroughly, which includes picking up poop, mopping the floors, and keeping the training equipment clean (this is the least glamorous part of the job but very important!) Training includes on-the-job as well as online classes about dog behavior, supervising playgroups, and safety for which you will receive 2 certificates of completion! Quarterly team trainings to improve our skills This will eventually be a solo shift after training. Tips are paid out monthly Receive a bonus for any baths given, too! POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Preference to applicants living within a 15-minute commute Love dogs and able to put their needs and well-being first Self-starter, self-motivated; Able to work independently and make decisions based on training since this will be a solo shift. Experience with animals preferred Great customer service and interpersonal communication skills Open to learning and enjoys positive feedback as well as feedback for areas of growth Great customer service -- always positive, and able to communicate about dog's good or bad behaviors (will train) Ability to take messages and talk to clients over the phone when needed Team player attitude, willing to help out coworkers Able to follow precise procedures and instructions Punctual arrival to work Able to lift up to 50 lb COVID-19 vaccines required Many people think working at a dog daycare is just "playing with puppies all day." This is far from reality. Although we do get to enjoy being with the dogs, it is real work with real responsibilities, and there is ALWAYS something that needs to get done. We always aim to better our skills with dog handling and often work on new tips and tricks to improve.
