NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will begin lane shifts for northbound and sound bound traffic on Kingston Road Bridge at I-95 Exit 3 in Richmond during the overnight hours of Monday, Jan 11. The work is part of RIDOT's Kingston Road Bridge Replacement Project, which began in August 2020 and is expected to be completed in spring 2022. The bridge, a 68-year-old structure, carries approximately 51,300 vehicles per day and is only one rating point from being structurally deficient. "RIDOT has completed construction of the new northbound bridge and will shift traffic onto it so demolition and replacement can begin on the southbound bridge," said RIDOT in a news release. "I-95 northbound traffic will be shifted to the right from its current condition, and I-95 southbound traffic will shift to the left." The new traffic pattern on the bridge is expected to last for approximately six months, said RIDOT. All lanes and ramps will remain open, but drivers should reduce their speed due to narrow lanes. The $21.3 million repair project to replace the Kingston Road Bridge is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's commitment to modernizing and repairing Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure and promoting economic development. The replacement of the Kingston Road Bridge is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs.
