Let’s come together to help better our society and bring much-needed help to those that deserve it. ** My name is Eric Karnezis, and I’ve spent much of my life struggling to defy all the odds stacked against me. I met a young girl, Kenya, that reminded me of myself when I was younger. As a successful entrepreneur who finally found great success, I often think back to those who didn’t make it. The other kids, like me, were in need of a helping hand and couldn’t get it. I’ve had best friends become drug addicts, others end up in prison trapped in a revolving door system, and even worse, many of my friends lost their lives in the struggle. Lots of us went to a junior college after high school in hopes of changing our lives for the better, but the financial burden of higher education is unrealistic. The classes take up all your time, so it’s tough to find a job that will work around your odd hours, and homework sometimes takes more hours than going to class. So, most of them dropped out and missed out on living the life of their dreams. Kenya is in the middle of this struggle. Imagine a 17-year-old girl not only taking care of herself but taking care of her sick mother as well. She does all household chores, from cooking to dishes and grocery runs, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She was recently accepted to Biola University, a small Christian college in LA, but she can’t go because the costs are too high, and she can’t afford it. This scholarship fund is for her college tuition, books, and supplies. A year at Biola will cost approximately $43,512.00, and Kenya needs our help to cover these expenses. I don’t want to see another bright rising star fall like some of my best friends. I have a solid connection to this cause because I had to put myself through college, which was almost impossible. I starved most of the time, lived off peanut butter and hard-boiled eggs for months, and spent much of my junior year sleeping in my car, homeless again. Sometimes eating one spoonful of peanut butter a day because the books I needed cost every penny I made at my minimum-wage job. This fundraiser allows us to band together as a community and help a bright young lady accomplish her dreams without compromising her morals or health. The financial burden of college on her is too much, and she’s watching her dreams pass her by. Could you imagine getting accepted into the college of your dreams, but you can’t go because you have no money? Heartbreaking. Your donation will personally change Kenya’s entire life. At this point, I must do something. I want to be the help that I never got, and it starts here with all of us coming together as a community and helping as much as possible. Love is contagious.
