Ukrainian born musicians, Oleksii Ivanchenko, piano, and Dmytro Gnativ, flute, are performing Ukrainian music in this concert to benefit family members who have been displaced or adversely affected by the war in Ukraine. These include a mother and two minor children who have relocated to Miami, who speak no English and need assistance.
Musical selections will include: J.S. Bach, “Quia respexit”; Amy Beach, “Romance”; J.S Bach, “Invention”; B. Lyatoshinsky, "Melody"; J. Kolodub, "Poem"; M. Lysenko, "Elegy La Tristesse"; Folk Christmas song “Schedryk”; A. Kos-Anatolsky, “Tanez’ Dzvinkiv”; M. Kolessa, “Kolomyika” No. 3.
Ukrainian food will be served at the reception following the concert, prepared by family members of the performers.
A Ukrainian-born pianist, Mr. Ivanchenko has won top prizes in nearly thirty national and international competitions and performed as soloist and with orchestras in Europe, Asia, South Africa, and North America. He is a lecturer and accompanying coordinator in the Keyboard Performance Department at the Frost School of Music.
Mr. Gnativ, born in Sambir, Ukraine, is a third year doctoral candidate at the University of Miami, Frost School of Music. He is also on the faculty of Miami's Musicall conservatory and has been an advocate for unknown Ukrainian music.
