Description

Join us for breakfast/coffee and a morning of re-engagement with other case managers. This mini-summit will cover several topics to help you provide the best case management to your clients while being mindful of your own self care and sustainability at work. Burnout, moral distress and compassion fatigue A career spent helping and caring for others can be fulfilling and meaningful, but the wear and tear of the daily challenges can add up. We are often asked to step in to extreme and traumatic situations, provide help to our most vulnerable, and navigate through unsympathetic systems. We all want to provide the best possible service for our clients, but at what cost? Learn about burnout, moral distress and compassion fatigue. This session will help you learn the difference between the three, how to recognize symptoms, and how we know when it’s time to make a change. Next we will look at some of the ways we can combat these things and mitigate their effects. We will explore potential scenarios and do some skill building practices together. You will gain some theoretical perspectives as well as practical tips on self-care, building and maintaining boundaries, holding hope and implementing a strength based case management lens. after a quick break... We will consider "When 'Yes' means 'I don't understand': Informed Consent for Sustainable Care" Are you supporting clients who have trouble understanding and expressing their needs? Do you ever worry clients say yes but are unclear of their choices? Have you ever worried you pushed someone toward a decision they did not really want? In this session we will learn how to share information with clients and ensure their understanding. We will cover how to listen and understand our clients and their desires. Informed Consent is a cornerstone of many parts of our lives, and is necessary as a cornerstone for our work as case managers. We will end the morning thinking about how we recover from little traumas and everyday disasters. Gain some insights and tips on becoming more resilient in our work and lives. Developed and presented by the tri-county Older Adult Behavioral Health team (Kera Magarill, Laurel Wonder, Jill Williams and Kim Whitely).
