Description
In honor of America Recycles Day in November, join us for an educational event all about recycling. Come learn about what can and can't be recycled, common myths about recycling, how the industry works, and more. The session will feature guest speakers Amanda Scofield and Keima Borsuah. About the Speakers: Amanda Scofield is an Environmental Programs Specialist at the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in Land Protection, Solid Waste, and Sustainable Materials Management. At DEQ, Amanda works on the proper recycling of electronic waste through the Oklahoma Computer Equipment Recovery Act (OCERA) and serves on the board of the Oklahoma Recycling Association (OKRA), among other projects. Amanda graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University in Natural Resource Ecology and Management with an option in Wildlife Biology. Amanda is an avid recycler and believes that every individual's actions add up to make a difference, in the importance of staying informed at a local level, that every dollar spent is a vote for consumer products, and in continuously spreading the recycling (and composting) gospel to friends and family! Keima Borsuah serves as Assistant Extension Specialist for the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service (OCES) Solid Waste Program. She uses applied research to prepare solid waste educational materials for rural and underserved communities. This includes making presentations, providing workshops that promote proper waste management techniques, and delivering information on other environmentally friendly topics to local residents as well as state, regional and national audiences. Keima work with other solid waste experts across the state to organize trainings and conferences focused on rural Oklahomans. She represents OCES on state and regional committees that derive rural waste policy. Keima is currently serving as the President of the Oklahoma Recycling Association. She holds a master's degree in environmental Management from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor’s degree in the same field from her home country Sierra Leone. When not doing OCES work, Keima enjoys doing workouts and running after her kiddos around their home.
