Please join the ward offices of Alderman Christopher Taliaferro (Ward 29) and Alderman Emma Mitts (Ward 37) along with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) for the third Community Meeting on the Austin Corridor Improvements. This will be an in-person open house style meeting. At this meeting, the project team will have stations set up to share the improvement designs for the corridor. Participants are able to come and go freely during the event and move from station to station, providing the opportunity for participants to ask questions and provide feedback. Following the Community Meeting, the presentation materials will be available on the project website, where comments and feedback can also be shared. Status of the project: The street design for the first section to be constructed (Austin Boulevard to Central Avenue) will be available for viewing. The street design for the second section (Central Avenue to Laramie Avenue) and third section (Laramie Avenue to Cicero Avenue) are still in the design development phase and will available for viewing and feedback. Updates on the development of the community identifiers for the entire corridor will be at a later meeting About the project: CDOT is conducting a corridor improvement project along Chicago Avenue from Austin Boulevard to Cicero Avenue. As an initiative of INVEST South/West, the project will build off the ‘Soul City Corridor Development Framework Plan’ and the ‘Austin Forward. Together.’ quality of life plan. The goals of this project are to provide a safe, walkable, and attractive street that will foster community and economic growth to support re-activation of neighborhood cores that have historically served as hubs for pedestrian activity, shopping, services, transportation, public spaces and quality-of-life amenities for local residents.
