Description

Please join SheJumps for a Know Before You Go Avalanche Awareness event led by women and for women(and girls)! In partnership with Stio, we will be hosting this event at the brand-new Stio store in downtown Bend, Oregon. As the community of women spending time in the backcountry grows every year, we want to make sure you know how to travel safely in avalanche terrain. Whether you’re on a splitboard, ski, or snowshoe set-up, it is important to know how to travel in the backcountry. We will provide information about what avalanches are, how they are triggered, and how to travel in avalanche terrain. We will describe all the necessary gear to carry and how to use it. We will also provide resources on steps you can take to further your avalanche education. We will also walk through a report of the current avalanche conditions in our area! This event is open to anyone looking for a first-time introduction to avalanches or to anyone who is interested in refreshing their knowledge. We specifically welcome all women and girls (transgender and cisgender) as well as non-binary people to experience a female-led conversation. Avalanches don't just happen to extreme athletes - they can happen to those skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowbiking, snowshoeing, hiking, driving, hunting, ice climbing, shoveling under a roofline (roof-alanches!), and more - anyone who can get onto or underneath steep snow-covered slopes. Join us to become more aware of the dangers of avalanches, learn about helpful resources, and make a plan for becoming more educated. All participants attending this event must agree to the SheJumps COVID of Conduct. --- SheJumps increases the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities to foster confidence, leadership, and connection to nature and community through free and low-cost outdoor education.
