Seeking a small toy breed dog

Description

I had to have my 18-year-old Pekingese euthanized on May 2nd, followed by having my 13-year-old Pekingese euthanized a month late on June 2nd when he went into heart failure. These two had been a part of my life since they were pups and the loss has been mentally and emotionally devasting. Today, I went to VASPCA to adopt and was told the cost would be close to $1000 due to their need to recoup their vet bill. I simply cannot afford that. Neither can I pay $250 and up "rehoming" fees. Please do not take that as I cannot afford to care for a dog! For the last 5 years, I paid over $200 a month for my dogs' medications in addition to my little male who had heart issues having a $600 heart scan every 6 months since he was 8 years old. And I'm not knocking anyone at all for trying to recoup their money, especially given that I know how expensive vets and dog food are. I just can't pay that much and it's as basic as that. I can assure anyone that any pet I adopt and bring into my home has a forever home. My dogs never lacked anything, be it attention or creature comforts. I can show my lease if needed to prove I am allowed to keep a dog. I live near Sturgis Beach off East Ocean View and walk along the bay daily, so they would also get daily exercise. I'm not trying to be picky, but I can not handle pit breeds, jack russells... excitable dogs. There are no children in my home and I work from home. I am in the habit of taking my pets with me when I go out. I would love to find a poodle, pekingese, yorkie, bichon frise, shitzu... or a mix of these. I'm not specifically looking for a full breed dog. If you have anything or know someone who does, and can work with me on a $200 or less budget, please contact me. Thank you for reading!
