Black Ice follows Malik Martin and a crew of aspiring ice climbers from a neighborhood gym in Memphis to the frozen wilds of Montana, where legendary climber Conrad Anker mentors them and shares his love of winter adventure in the mountains. Conrad and Malik will host a Q&A after the film to share more about their journeys since the film (and celebrate Conrad’s birthday).
We’re also screening Wood Hood, a short documentary about Camping to Connect, a BIPOC-led experiential mentorship program that uses outdoor recreation and nature immersion to address the complex issues faced by young men of color in America’s cities. We’ll be joined by David Lopez and Carlos Davila, the mentors featured in Wood Hood.
The screening is a benefit for two organizations working toward equity for people of color in the outdoors: Brown Girls Climb & Young Masterminds Initiative.
