Description
Come learn about the open position of FSA-I that you will be applying and competing for. San Bernardino County Fire is proud to have Old Cajon Crew 6 & Harrison Canyon Crew 7, both professional, multi-risk hand crews that are trained and equipped to respond to various types of emergencies. The first San Bernardino County Fire professional hand crew was created in July 2012 and consisted of 18 rigorously trained members known as Crew 40. Today, San Bernardino County Fire is proud to have Old Cajon (founded in 2013) and Harrison Canyon (founded in 2021), two type 2IA, professional hand crews that are available to respond to emergencies seven days a week. In addition to their year-round permanent staffing, both crews are augmented by seasonal hand crew members nine months out of the year for a total of 24 members each. San Bernardino County Fire hand crews have been increasingly deployed to various incidents in recent years and serve a variety of missions to the residents of the county. In addition to their work at wildland fires, the hand crews have been assigned to floods, mudslides, technical rescues and other large incidents requiring manpower. The hand crew program has also secured numerous contracts with various cooperators for fuel modification projects. Hand crews can serve multiple roles in fire suppression such as building handline, firing operations, tree felling operations, creating defensible space, and participate in mop-up operations. This has improved our organization’s efficiency by relieving firefighters and medic engines from incidents in order to return to service. The professional Hand Crew members go through training that includes wildland fire behavior, advanced wildland firefighting tactics, saw and hand tool techniques, helicopter operations, structure defense techniques, technical rescue operations, confined space awareness, and Haz-Mat Decon functions. All members are emergency medical technicians or first responder trained. Our hand crews are also involved in various community projects that provide hazard fuel mitigation in fire prone areas such as our mountain communities. Hand crews are just one of the many ways that your county fire district serves you with Duty, Honor, and Community. NO SHOWS WILL BE MONITORED If you are unable to attend please reach out to [email protected] or call or text 909.677.8320
