1 Year Old Blue Heeler and 6 Year Old Border Collie

Description

Loki is a 1 year old Blue Heeler (Cattle Dog) who is quite small for his breed at just 25lbs. We have another dog who we’ve had for years and last year we decided to get him a friend. We have a herding dog already (border collie) and never had the issues we have with Loki. Truthfully, I think he needs a single person (probably preferably adult male as he gets along best with my husband) without kids or other pets and a fenced in yard. He also needs a lot of attention and won’t do well being locked up all day. He doesn’t like being alone, and craves sitting on your lap or next to you in the evenings. He does know how to sit, lay down, he walks pretty well on a leash, and is crate trained. He is quite vocal toward other dogs if he sees them, and does bark if someone rings the doorbell (occasionally if someone is walking by but usually just a quiet growl). He’s been to doggie daycare many times and has played with other dogs just fine. He’s been boarded on vacation and does well with all staff. We have not taken him to a dog park. He does well for the groomer and vet. Honestly, he’s a really decent dog if someone can give him a quieter place to live without kids. He’s never bitten any of them but he does snap at their hands or heels (which is the breed instinct). I’ve tried training it out but it isn’t predictable and hasn’t improved. He does tend to growl and snap when you close his kennel door. He never bites, but he protests being put in the kennel…without a treat. Seriously - he does this every time he doesn’t get a treat when he goes in the kennel and never growls when he has a treat. It’s almost like he’s complaining he didn’t get rewarded- it started when I tried to train out the treat reward for going into the kennel and only giving it sporadically during kennel training. He does sleep in his kennel at night- as he’s still young and will get into the trash in the bathroom or plants if left unattended. He’s extremely food motivated but is not exactly gentle when taking food - we’ve been working on it. Not aggressive just overzealous. He’s also extremely afraid of fireworks and thunder- he needs to be on your lap and he often shakes. This year has been rough with how often the fireworks are. I truthfully just don’t have the time to give him what he needs to get him to be a confident and happy dog. I have really felt bad about this decision but I do feel a new home would be what’s best for him even if it doesn’t make me feel good. Domino is a 6 year old border collie mix and Loki’s best friend. They MUST go together. Domino is well trained and knows many tricks like sit, down, roll over, play dead, wave, walk on hind legs, and he’s done agility and obedience training. He does bark at other dogs when outside and is a puller on the leash but he’s not aggressive at all. He’s extremely docile and loves to lay at your feet. He’s really a good boy and I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old. This is such a hard choice for me but this is what’s best for them. I just can’t make it work with the dogs and the lifestyle we have grown into. If you made it this far, I’m looking for a good home for both dogs. I’m not asking much, just $150 and I’ll give you their kennels and favorite toys, leashes, collars, and all vet records. Both dogs are up to date on all shots, microchipped, neutered, and negative for heartworm with most recent test done this year. Please contact Katie for more information and to meet them. *I do have a fenced yard system I’m willing to sell for an additional $200. It’s 32 panels and have posts that go into the ground but are easy to remove and replaced - no digging or permits required. Fence panels are 31” W x 39.5” high.* If you take both dogs and the fence I can do all of it for $300.
