Chef Ryann Morris & Swinton Community Growing Project team up to offer a new kind of cooking class - in the food forest! NATURE NOURISHES workshops are a unique collaboration between nutritional health coach and trained Ayurvedic chef, Ryann Morris, and Swinton Community Growing Project, an organic food forest in the heart of Delray Beach. A fabulous fusion of gardening know-how & cooking expertise, Nature Nourishes workshops will teach you how to grow, harvest, and prepare delicious dishes with many of the plants growing in the community garden. Chef Ryann will share her creative, nourishing recipes and talk about how deeply connected food is to how we feel, think and function. Workshops will be held outside in the food forest, in the shade of a big tree and surrounded by many of the ingredients you’ll cook with. Each workshop includes: A tour of the food forest - learn about our many edible tropical perennials and see what’s growing seasonally, too!Cooking demonstrations of at least 3 recipes with opportunity for hands-on participation & recipe tasting!Gardening know-how about growing featured plants!Food samples + seedlings and/or plant cuttings for each participant to take home!November 14 - GET SAUCY! Learn about growing, harvesting and preparing aromatic herbs and veggies into versatile sauces, chutneys, and dressings that make just about anything taste even better. Many people love the smell and taste of lemongrass, but don’t have any idea how to cook with it. We’re here for you! In this workshop, Chef Ryann shares her herbalicious recipes using lemongrass as well as more familiar herbs & veggies. The boss is the sauce! December 12 - THE MORINGA MIRACLEOften referred to as the “miracle tree,” moringa oleifera is one of the most incredible superfoods on the planet. Easy to grow, harvest and prepare, there’s just no reason you shouldn’t be boosting your nutritional intake by a gazillion percent and enjoy doing it. We love moringa and think you will, as well! Discover how powerful the moringa tree is and how to use its leaves, pods, and seeds. You’ll learn to prepare three delicious recipes with this amazing tree. January 9 - EAT THE TREES & “WEEDS”“What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have never been discovered.” - Ralph Waldo Emmerson Did you know that purslane (Portulaca oleracea), often found growing in the cracks of sidewalks, is a nutritional powerhouse? It is high in vitamin A, C, manganese, potassium, iron and calcium, and contains some of the highest amounts of omega-3s found in any plant outside of the ocean? In this workshop we’ll explore edible trees & “weeds” you may not know but won’t want to forget. We’ll teach you how to grow them at home & identify nutritious plants often overlooked as mere weeds. Experience demonstrations of creative recipes & get your forage on! February 13 - SWEETS RADICALLY REIMAGINED + STOP AND EAT THE FLOWERS Spoiler alert! There’s seaweed in that scrumptious mousse. And not a bit of ice cream in your milkshake. Yes, you read that right. Ready to totally reimagine sweets with minimal use of processed foods, refined sugar, or other bad-for-you stuff? Ready to learn how plants in nature provide us with amazing sweeteners that are actually good for us? In this class you’ll learn three recipes that use unique ingredients to make yummy sweets. Plus, if you haven’t stopped to eat the flowers yet, what are you waiting for…? Not just for looks, many edible flowers provide nutritional and health benefits. Come enjoy these edible beauties delightful to the eye and beneficial to the body. Food doesn’t start in the kitchen - it starts in the earth. Cooking doesn’t start with ingredients - it starts with love! The Nature Nourishes workshops aim to connect you to the complete cycle of energy, growth, love, and joy that is food.
