Nevada County’s Community Orchestra’s free concert offers classical music inspired by birds Featured is a solo violin performance by Jolán Friedhoff, performing “The Lark Ascending” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. OLLI will also perform “The Birds” (Gli Uccelli), by Ottorino Respighi, “Symphony No. 83 in G minor”, “La Poule” (The Hen) composed by Joseph Haydn and “Chicken Reel” by Leroy Anderson. OLLI Orchestra was formed in 1978. The orchestra’s members live in the Grass Valley Nevada City community. They rehearse and perform as volunteers. The group is sponsored by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Sierra College – OLLI. Wayland Whitney, OLLI’s young, new conductor, also leads Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra.
