If the Grateful Dead is your religion, then the Crazy Horse is your church when Third Thursday rolls around. Every month Jonny Mojo (Achilles Wheel) and Gary Campus (Deadbeats) assemble a cast of the finest musicians from around the region to conjure lightning in a bottle. BBD is a gathering point for everyone who wants to plug into the feeling of what it was like going to a Dead show. The music that bubbles forth from these nights captures the spontaneous, explosive, freewheeling spirit that so many of us cherish.
Back in August, we intended to celebrate Jerry’s early bluegrass roots. Unfortunately, that event had to be postponed, but we are thrilled to report that the same lineup is finally convening now. We’ve got an all-star group of ferocious pickers led by Isaac Cantor (Dusty Green Bones, Grateful Bluegrass Boys) on banjo along with his frequent collaborator Scotty Brown (Dusty Green Bones, Electric Tumbleweed, Grateful Bluegrass Boys) on upright bass. Then of course we have to throw in the whiz kid, Kyle Ledson (Broken Compass, Cosmic Frog) on mandolin and guitar. You’ll get a taste of the music that led to the genesis of the Grateful Dead and Old and in the Way. You can be sure they’ll have some scintillating interpretations of other nuggets from the Dead/Jerry catalog.
