Hosted by the UCLA Asian American Studies Center, Luskin School of Public Affairs, in partnership with the California AAPI Legislative Caucus (AAPILC), the AAPI Policy Summit will take place in-person on November 30, 2022 from 8:00am - 6:00pm at the Luskin Conference Center. As we climb out of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we stand at a critical moment in history to reimagine California by developing solutions that establish more equitable institutions, policies, and systems that work towards social justice for all. The AAPI Policy Summit will bring together researchers, students, community, government, corporate, and academic leaders to have in-depth conversations about topics that are timely, shed new light on issues, and have ideas and recommendations that are actionable. In particular, how to create a future that is inclusive of Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities. Breakout sessions in the works include: Combatting Anti-Asian Hate: Addressing anti-Asian hate crimes and incidents, improving reporting, and mitigating anti-Asian racism in schools.Addressing the Gaps in Healthcare and Mental Health: Addressing mental health, increasing food justice and security, and improving access to healthcare.Economic Recovery: Housing, Employment, Small Businesses, and Food Insecurity: Developing solutions to economic disparities in accessing benefits and relief related to employment, housing, small business, and food insecurity resources.Developing Inclusive Immigrant Protections and Policies: Health, economic, and social implications of COVID-19 among undocumented young adults living in California, Anti-AAPI Racism in Immigration and Criminal Law.Reimagining the Arts, Theatre, and Hollywood: Improving recovery strategies and resources for AANHPI nonprofit arts organizations and artists, as well as diverse representation in Hollywood.Advancing AANHPI Data Equity and Disaggregation: How can we advance more equitable data collection to ensure more comprehensive demographic data for AANHPI communities, in particular smaller populations?Challenges and Opportunities in Implementing Ethnic Studies and Asian American Studies Requirements: Implementing curriculum requirements in California High Schools, CA State Universities, and Community CollegesAAPI Leaders in Corporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Where do AAPIs fit in the DEI discussions, especially in corporate and government sectors?Philanthropy and Corporate Giving: How do we advance equitable giving to AAPI communities?Addressing the Health Needs of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander CommunitiesTools and Strategies for Community Power Building and Electoral PoliticsWe’ll share more session details in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
