About the film: The Command Center to Bring Women Home is a short hybrid documentary film that brings to life a re-imagining of what reentry could look like if it were designed by formerly incarcerated women. The film, directed by Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich in collaboration with Wren Rene, was produced with writing by former Philadelphia poet laureate Yolanda Wisher and centers the testimonies of three Philadelphia women: Starr Granger, Paulette Carrington and Tamika Bell. The film’s process and storyline center the collaborative writing process and the imaginations and transformative visions of its subjects, who were each sentenced to life without parole before having their sentences commuted after decades behind the wall. The film sparks a conversation around the future of reentry and imagines futuristic possibilities for mothers and daughters to overcome trauma and barriers and connect across generations. The voices and activism of formerly incarcerated women must be centered in reentry efforts. This conversation explores what resources can be leveraged to support them as they lead efforts to transform the conditions of communities impacted by incarceration.
