Description

Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer Jon Meacham will be joining us on campus to discuss the origins and implications of Abraham Lincoln's theology from his recent book And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle. Jon Meacham brings to light the conscience that drove Abraham Lincoln to make certain political decisions in confronting secession, threats to democracy, and the tragedy of slavery to expand the possibilities of America. In a recent interview with NPR, Meacham emphasized the importance of understanding Lincoln's conscience and moral leadership, showing us that " if you send someone to the pinnacle of American power who has no conscience, who has no moral compass, then American democracy and the cause of liberty will suffer and possibly die.".
