The Christendom Lectures, featuring talks by four speakers on how Christians can stand firm in a world gone mad, begins Jan. 9-11 in West Monroe, Louisiana at Church of the Redeemer. Speakers at the Christendom Lectures include Micah Mattix, PhD., a professor of English at Regent University and the poetry editor at First Things magazine; Duane Garner, author and pastor of Christ Church in Raleigh, NC; Mark Horne, author and assistant pastor at Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO; and Steve Wilkins, author and pastor at Church of the Redeemer. The deadline for early registration is December 18. Attendance to the lectures is $100, if registered early. The three-day event also will feature worship services and opportunities for fellowship and perusing offerings from book vendors. The lectures will take place at Church of the Redeemer, 715 Cypress St., West Monroe, Louisiana. SPEAKERS: Micah Mattix, PhD, is a professor of English at Regent University and the poetry editor at First Things. He has written for The Wall Street Journal, National Review, The New Criterion, The Atlantic, and many other publications. He has a Ph.D. in literature from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and taught at Yale University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a senior editor at Spectator World until 2022 and is the former literary editor of The American Conservative. He is the author of The Soul Is a Stranger in this World: Essays on Poets and Poetry (Cascade) and the co-editor of the anthology Christian Poetry in America Since 1940 (Paraclete). He is a ruling elder at a PCA church. He and his wife, Carine, have four children. Rev. Duane Garner is the pastor of Christ Church (CREC) in Raleigh, NC where he has served since 2012. He earned a Bachelor of Bible Languages from Oxford Baptist Institute, Oxford, MS, studied at the Bucer Institute for Biblical Studies, Monroe, LA for four years, and is an ACBC certified Biblical counselor. He and his wife Sarah have been married since 1997 and have two children. Rev. Mark Horne was born in Melbourne, FL, but was raised as a young child in Liberia, West Africa, where his parents were missionaries. Mark graduated with an M. Div. in 1998 and currently serves as the assistant pastor at Providence Reformed Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO. Mark is also the executive director of Logo Sapiens Communications, a non-profit educational organization. He is the author of Solomon Says: Directive for Young Men (Athanasius Press 2020), a guide to understanding the book of Proverbs. He has also written other books, including J. R. R. Tolkien (Thomas Nelson/Harper Collins 2011, 2022), Why Baptize Babies: An Explanation of the Theology and Practice of the Reformed Churches (Athanasius Press 2007), and The Victory According to Mark: An Exposition of the Second Gospel (Canon Press 2003, 2022). Rev. J. Steven Wilkins holds a Bachelor of Science degree (in Pre-Law) from the University of Alabama and a Masters of Divinity from the Reformed Theological Seminary of Jackson, Mississippi. He was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) in 1976. He served as the pastor of Auburn Avenue Presbyterian Church of Monroe, Louisiana from 1989 to 2018. On April 15, 2018, Auburn Avenue Presbyterian Church began worshipping in a new location in West Monroe, LA. and changed its name to Church of the Redeemer. SCHEDULE: The lecture series will begin the evening of Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. Lectures are scheduled almost all day and evening of Tuesday, January 10. The lecture series will conclude Wednesday, January 11, with lectures, a Q&A panel and lunch. Two meals will be catered for lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, for which more details can be found through registration.
