Description

“We who believe in freedom cannot rest until it comes.” - Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon Every year Ashé holds our Losing Louisiana convening on environmental justice as it relates to people, place and racism. This year is no different. Our laser focus is on two movements happening in the city of New Orleans - the fight to ensure healthy housing for the residents of Gordon Plaza and the reemergence of Lincoln Beach, a place designed for the Black community of New Orleans. Both movements are grounded in true solidarity, to achieve accountability! The day will feature rituals of remembrance, two exhibits honoring the history of Gordon Plaza and Lincoln Beach, as well as two informative conversations. Both groups will share where they are in each of their respective fights, and how working together has brought them this far.
