Well, what d'ya know? Another Craigslist posting by someone who is certain the rest of the world's musicians simply can't wait another day to benefit from the gift of his incomparable wisdom. So he simply MUST share it with everyone without further delay. >> why do you play in a band? Is it to play music you like or is it to play music The crowd likes? << Certainly, being in any band will inevitably involve compromise, including with your bandmates. But the implication here is that as long as you're playing music the crowd likes, your own musical desires are completely immaterial. You should be perfectly content to play music you hate, as long as the crowd likes it. (That's what you said you do, right?) To each his own, but that sounds like the ninth circle of hell to me, and a perfect formula for getting me to hate the process of playing music at all. >>I consider myself an entertainer if some of you consider that a sellout oh well I'm getting the gigs and I'm getting the crowds << Good for you. If that's more important to you than actually enjoying the process of playing music, then I personally think you ought to find another line of work. >> don't you think you would enjoy playing music that gets a response back? << Sure. The difference between you and me is that I've managed over the past 47+ years to play music "that gets a response back from the crowd" that is also music I truly love — music that brings me personal emotional fulfillment when I sing and play it. The day I no longer get that emotional fulfillment playing music is the day I put my guitar back in its case for good. It's just me, but I want playing music to be a joy, not a job. Sorry it hasn't worked out that way for you.
