Description
Looking to build a bunk style pontoon trailer. Pontoon is a 20' roughly 2500 lbs.
We have a short set of axles which is going to put out spring centers around 48" to 50". We are doing a 2x6 main frame for the axles to mount to.
Here's where the question comes in: We are going to need to extend out each side roughly 16" to get out to the center of the pontoons. Would a 16" 2x6 butt welded to the side of the frame be strong enough to support the pontoon while being trailer? Or should we do the 2x6 butt weld then run a 2x2 the full length across the trailer on top of it? Or what would you suggest that would work?
Most bunk trailers have longer axles that allow the pontoons to sit over the main.
