Description
We are currently searching for volunteers in the greater Boston Metro area to serve as community representatives for Institutional Biosafety Committees. This is a very low time commitment and a great networking opportunity and resume builder for students, grad students, postdocs, and anyone interested in public health, biology, chemistry, medicine, or science.
IBC committees review and approve upcoming research for labs and R&D facilities. In addition to industry professionals, many cities require members of the community (community reps) to attend these meetings and weigh in on any potential impacts to the city and neighborhoods. When community reps are required but no volunteers are available, research can be delayed. Reps play an important role in this process.
Qualifications:
You don't have to have a background in science to participate. Just have an interest in science and/or public health. *Note: IBC reps must be a resident of the city in which the IBC committee meeting takes place.
Locations:
We are currently looking for volunteers who are residents of Boston, Burlington, Cambridge, Lexington, Lowell, Marlborough, Natick, Newton, Somerville, and Watertown.
Time Commitment:
The only commitment is to attend a 45-minute meeting once or twice a year.
