Description
We are looking for adoptee's for our foster, Ivy. She is around a year old, is fixed, and up to date on all shots. She was rescued from abandonment after being left tied to a tree in the middle of the woods. She had a severe injury and lasting trauma from this event. However, she is super loving, trusting (once she gets to know you), energetic, and has the potential to be a great companion. Ivy should be in a home where she is the only animal due to her extreme prey drive, no other dogs or pets. Ivy will try to escape from any leash if she sees another animal outdoors, squirrels in particular! She should also not be in a home with (or around) children. We have tried to slowly expose her and desensitize her to other animals and kids but she has trauma that may always affect those interactions. She is not aggressive, but as she grew up in the wild, it's not fair to put her in a situation where an accident could occur by stressing her out with things that trigger those traumatic memories. Ivy is still learning how domesticated life works! She doesn't need your typical "puppy" training, she needs someone to commit to rehabilitating a dog who raised herself in the woods. She will need someone to continue training her in general but most importantly with a leash. She improves every day, but will probably always have an instinct to escape any feeling of restraint. Ivy has come a long way in terms of her healing, but due to her neck injury you should avoid any type of collar and rather go for a harness of some sort. She is VERY vocal, be wary of living somewhere where a neighbor could make a noise complaint! We truly believe that Ivy has a home that is fit for her out there, and want to do our best to communicate her needs to set her and her adoptee's up for success. We are asking that any adoptee would allow an in-home test where we bring Ivy to your home, and that you would sign a contract for her return to us should the adoption not work out.
