Perhaps you have heard something or read news articles about the Albany Waterway Canal Project. Was your interest piqued? Would you like to learn more, directly from the organizers of this project? Would you like to ask your own questions? This is an opportunity to feel connected to this extraordinary project and to help shape its future by getting involved. This is your opportunity to learn firsthand in a public forum about the early stages of this transformative, collaborative canal project. It would revitalize downtown Albany and reconnect the city to the Hudson River by re-imagining the city’s riverfront as a dynamic, job-producing waterway attraction lined with bistros, boutiques and public spaces for tourists and residents alike. It would draw boaters, pedestrians, and anyone who loves canals and vibrant urban environments. Following illustrated presentations by noted historical artist Len Tantillo and acclaimed landscape architect Susannah Drake, principal at Sasaki, Albany Waterway Canal Project Char BJ Costello will moderate a panel discussion, followed by audience Q&A. Be among the first to hear firsthand details on how this concept, which has been called “a Venice of the Northeastern U.S.,” began 25 years ago with Len Tantillo and has spurred strong public and government support and is poised to receive funding for an engineering feasibility study. Learn how the Albany Waterway Canal Project will address climate change resiliency and rising Hudson River levels while building upon the success of recent state-funded projects including Schenectady’s Mohawk Harbor and Buffalo’s Canalside. Please join us on Saturday, November 19 at 2 p.m. in the Huxley Theater of the New York State Museum, 222 Madison Avenue, Albany, at the Empire State Plaza. The event is free but requires registration for limited seating. Please arrive early. Anyone who is not seated 5 minutes prior to the start of the program, their seat can be given away to someone else.
