There is an old song or routine....Everyone wants to go to Heaven but nobody wants to die. Well, every player wants the glory of stage performance but nobody wants to work for it. Before they're even in the band; before they've learned one song they want to know what gigs you have. They advertise for a 'gigging band' without acknowledging, 'How can the band be gigging if they need me first?' Simple answer: If we're gigging we don't need you. We need a serious bass player. Not full time; not professional but serious and high quality.
