The U.S. Green Building Council of West Michigan invites our friends, members, and stakeholders to revel in all that was accomplished in 2022 at the Annual Party & Leadership Awards on December 8, 2022. This celebratory event will be held at the LEED-certified CityFlatsHotel in the Ballroom. The night will feature dinner, a keynote address by Jeremy Orr, Director of Litigation and Advocacy Partnerships at Earthjustice and Adjunct Law Professor at Michigan State University, and followed by drinks, merriment, and honoring the 2022 Leadership Awardees. The Leadership awardees exhibit a commitment to sustainable design, green building concepts, and innovation. We are excited to showcase their projects and share their stories with you. Sponsor the Chapter View Event Webpage Keynote Address: Centering Equity in Your Work At the event, Jeremy Orr will lead a discussion on the importance of centering equity in your work. About Jeremy Orr: Jeremy Orr is the Director of Litigation and Advocacy Partnerships for Earthjustice where he leads the organizational strategy for engaging and partnering with communities and other stakeholders. Prior to Earthjustice, he served as a Senior Attorney at the Natural ResourcesDefense Council on the Safe Water Initiative. In that role, he focused on drinking water and source water protection issues, working to ensure that all people have access to safe, sufficient, and affordable drinking water. With a background in community lawyering and community organizing around environmental justice and climate justice issues, he has previously worked as the Executive Director of the Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council, an Environmental Justice Attorney with the Transnational Environmental Law Clinic at Wayne State University Law School, as the Executive Director of the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition, and as a National Director with the Peoples Climate Movement. He is also a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Environmental Justice Advisory Council, a member of the Michigan Environmental Rules Review Committee, and the state chairperson of Environmental and Climate Justice for the Michigan NAACP. Additionally, he serves as a professor of law at the Michigan State University College of Law, and was named the 2022 Senior Fellow in Residence of the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy at Boston College Law School. Leadership Awards The USGBC-WM Leadership Awards promote outstanding green buildings, programs, and efforts by recognizing projects, organizations, and people who have made extraordinary contributions to achieving healthy, high-performing green buildings across the state of Michigan.
