Yes, Preservation Matters ... and it depends on people like you who value local history and understand the role of historic preservation in the stewardship of history. That's why you're invited to Historic Tacoma's 2022 Annual Meeting, on Sunday, November 13th at 3:30pm, to be held in Annie Wright School's Great Hall. The Annual Meeting will include a special presentation by author Bryan Johnston, joining us to discuss the 1935 kidnapping of George Weyerhaeuser--one of the most remarkable crimes in Pacific Northwest and Tacoma history. The 1935 kidnapping of nine-year-old George Weyerhaeuser was a crime even the FBI must have thought absurd and preposterous. Mr. Johnston, author of Deep in the Woods, the first book written about this astonishing case, will review little known details he discovered through 2500 pages of FBI documents, 200+ newspaper articles, court transcripts, and an interview with George Weyerhaeuser himself. (Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.)Board members will also review Historic Tacoma's accomplishments over the last few years, the current state of historic preservation efforts in Tacoma, and plans for the future. In addition to these presentations, this gathering will also offer the opportunity of a related walking tour prior to the meeting.NOTE: Prior to the 3:30pm meeting, you are welcome to join us at 2:30pm in front of Annie Wright School for a guided walking tour of the neighborhood led by Bryan Johnston, author of Deep in the Woods. The tour will highlight the Weyerhaeuser Mansion where the 1935 kidnapping happened as well as other places related to those events.
