Hiking Coyote Hills

Our saunter takes us from marshland to hilltop through thousands of years of human history and millions of years of geologic time. Coyote Hills was once the site of a Tuibun Ohlone village. In more recent times, it was a ranch and farm, a quarry, a hunting club, and even a Cold War missile launch site! And if that weren't enough, the rock we'll be walking on was formed from the skeletons of tiny planktonic creatures that once floated in Jurassic seas. After our hike, we'll visit the nectar garden and park visitor center to view exhibits illustrating the area's Ohlone heritage. TOTAL DISTANCE This is a moderate 4-mile round trip hike with a few hundred feet in elevation gain. LEADER Ken Lavin WEATHER POLICY Rain cancels COST $5 per vehicle park entrance fee. WHERE TO MEET We will meet at the parking area near the Park Visitor Center. From I-880, take Highway 84 west, exit at Paseo Padre Parkway, turn right, and drive north for about one mile. Turn left on Patterson Ranch Road. This is the park's entrance road that will take you to the picnic areas and visitor center. NOTES Bring lunch and water.
