She began writing melodies and playing guitar at the age of 10, initially inspired by the American folk music resurgence of the1960s. But since those early days, she's learned from and been influenced by every genre of music, from country and bluegrass, to jazz and delta blues. She's recorded for major record labels, has won numerous songwriting awards here and abroad, and has 5 original recordings to her credit. As a visual artist, Joni's folk-art paintings, multi-media photographs and hand-made cigar-box instruments have been shown in galleries, at art festivals and have become a featured part of her solo performances as she tours throughout the country. Every concert is paired with an impressive showing of her unique visual art, a 'Concert / Art Show' combination that has become the trademark of this multi-talented artist. Her art credits include commissioned portraits for the CD covers of 2 Grammy nominated recordings: "Vanthology", an R&B tribute to the songs of Van Morrison (Evidence Records 2003), and the Americana CD "A Well Traveled Porch" by songwriter Tom Roznowski (Bell Buckle Records.) Her artwork is included in the private collections of Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Annie Roboff, Gary Nicholson and numerous others. More info available at Joni's website.
