Description
Heritage Day is an event that is annually hosted by the Hmong Minnesota Student Association to highlight important topics in the Hmong community through the form of a play. Themes that have been used in the past include LGBTQIA+ identities, orphans, taboo relationships, gender equity, domestic violence, PTSD, identity, etc. Heritage Day has not been hosted in the past 2 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year, we wanted to bring Heritage Day back and focus on our theme: Rekindle and Revitalize. We will have two plays this year both highlighting intergenerational trauma, while showcasing the pain and beauty of being Hmong.
In this event, we will also have dancing/singing performances with Hmong talent, a fashion show with Hmong clothing, and a dinner with Hmong food. We hope that this event will allow young Hmong individuals and Hmong elders to feel empowered and reconnected with their Hmong identity in this foreign land we have come to know as “home and refuge.” Ultimately, we hope to spread awareness and connect all communities and individuals through our Hmong stories, talent, and resilience. Come and join us for a night of celebration, acknowledgement, and fun!
Doors open at 4:15 PM. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come and join!
Dress Attire: Hmong Clothes or Semi-Formal
