Description

The U.S. is experiencing an infant and maternal health crisis and Philadelphia ranks among the highest in infant and maternal mortality: - At 8 per 1,000 live births, Philadelphia’s infant mortality rate has consistently been one of the highest among all major cities. - Black women make up 43% of Philadelphia’s annual birthing population, yet account for 73% of all pregnancy-related maternal deaths. - In Philadelphia Black babies have higher infant mortality rates and higher rates of low birth weights than all other races. Family Practice & Counseling Network has a history of providing high quality services to its community and believes in shaping its service lines to best meet the needs of the patients and the families it serves. Set to take root in Woodland Village Plaza, in the Southwest section of Philadelphia, FPCN is embarking on a community solution set to open in 2023: a women's health and birth center. In partnership with A Home From Shana Foundation, an advocacy organization supporting pregnant women promoting healthy and safe pregnancies through education on childbirth rights to reduce birth complications associated with mistreatment and unsafe medical care, we look forward to hosting a community conversation at Bayou Lounge, a staple in Southwest Philly, featuring experts in the field on Black maternal health, advocacy, and collective solutions towards combating the maternal health crisis here in the city of Philadelphia.
