Description

Join the Massachusetts Forest Alliance for a workshop on the latest mapping technology! This workshop will focus on the use of mapping apps - particularly, the market-leading Avenza Maps - in forestry. Imagine a forester creating a forest cutting plan map electronically, and sending it to the logger and service forester with the landing, skid roads, stands to be harvested, and protected areas all marked. And then the logger using the map live on their phone, tablet, or even on their logging equipment instrument panel while harvesting, seeing exactly where they are located every second, with warnings when approaching property lines or protected areas - even in remote areas without cell service! This is all possible with Avenza Maps, the market-leading mapping app for forestry. The workshop will run from 9 am - 2:30 pm and will include a provided lunch. We'll begin with a comprehensive training on the Avenza Maps app with an instructor from Avenza itself. Then we'll head to a nearby woodlot scheduled for a timber harvest for a field tour where attendees will be able to experience the app firsthand on their own phone, seeing how it can be used during a harvest. Attendees who are not current Avenza Maps Pro users will receive a substantial discount on the first year of Pro membership - paying just $99.99 instead of $144.99 - a savings of $45, more than the workshop cost! This workshop has been approved for the following continuing education credits: 5.0 Massachusetts Forester Credits in Category II4.0 SAF Forester Credits in Category I2.0 Connecticut Forest Practitioner CEUs5 Massachusetts Timber Harvester CreditsThis workshop is partially funded through a USDA Forest Service grant administered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
