Earn a Merit Badge and a High Adventure Award on the water in the New Year! Although there will be a Marine Science Naturalist on board with our cohort who will have marine animal artifacts, and answer questions about Fish & Wildlife, ALL SCOUTS should come prepared to show their knowledge and understanding of the requirements for BOTH the Whale Watcher Award -AND- the Fish & Wildlife Management merit badge. ——————————————————— (A) Whale Watcher High Adventure Award (pictured): 1) Participate in a whale watching cruise. 2) Draw a picture of a whale observed on the cruise. Name and label its parts. 3) Draw a map of the migratory route. 4) Learn the following vocabulary words and what it means - document will be sent via email on January 1, 2023. 5) Give a report on the past and present whaling practices including current laws on whale hunting. Any option must be completed by January 7 and Scout will bring PHOTOS to show which option you chose. 6) CHOOSE ONE: (A) and (B) can be completed on board. (C) must be completed before January 8 and Scouts will bring their Scrapbook to the meeting. 7) DO ONE of the following: (A), (B) and (D) must be completed before January 7 so Scouts can bring photos to have a discussion with the Merit Badge Counselor at the lunch meeting on the Pier. (C) will be available to be completed during lunch meeting at Ruby’s Diner on the Balboa Pier. 8) Using resources found at the library and in periodicals, books, and the Internet (with your parent's permission), learn about three different positions held by fisheries and/or wildlife professionals. Find out the education and training requirements for each position. ================================ NOTES: There are NO REFUNDS - if you’re not able to attend on the day of trip for whatever reason, your ticket has already been purchased.All Scouts will be in their Field Uniform and bring their face covering, blue card, money for lunch at Ruby’s Diner on the Balboa Pier, and 10 essentials for a day trip.If you’re vaccinated and you do not wish to wear a face covering, please bring proof of your Covid-19 vaccination.Everyone will bring their own set of the following forms for check in.
