The River Series is a fund-raiser for the Maria Montessori School. We host shows at our on-campus amphitheater every spring and fall, bringing an eclectic mix of local and touring acts together for performances at a truly special place in Downtown Memphis. This fall series is sponsored by Wiseacre Brewing, Downtown Memphis Commission, WYXR, Tom Martin Design and NIXODNAIRB and produced by Zac Ives from Goner Records. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids in advance at riverseries.org. If space is available, tickets will also be available at the door the day of the show. All proceeds go to support the Maria Montessori School. Doors open at 2pm, DJ Hot Tub Eric Plumley will play records before and after sets at 3:00pm (Hail Maria) and 4:00pm (Nick Allison & the Player's Lounge).
Nick Allison & the Player’s Lounge
Under the radar Texas troubadour who you wouldn’t know if you weren’t from Austin or a regular at the post-SXSW Chili Dog Fest - but everyone should! His 2020 album “Make Room” was a Goner Record Shop favorite - Allison’s twangy Doug Sahm meets Greg Cartwright hits all the right buttons - and he was a big hit at Gonerfest 18 last year. New album being recorded in Austin now by Memphis ex-pat (and former River Series soundman) Andrew McCalla.
“[Allison’s] ringing guitar matches his voice to create the perfect blend for pop fans with a bit of punk attitude” - Austin Town Hall
Hail Maria
Solo project from Michael Peery (Ex-Cult, Magic Kids) and a Memphis underground rock all-star backing band. Recommended if you like Sparks, Jonathan Richman, Strapping Fieldhands.
