There's just something about Birmingham. It's hard to put your finger on, but once you experience it, you know that there's no other place like it. From the moment you drive into town and see the skyline, you know that this is a city with a lot of character. There's history here, and a vibrancy that is unmatched in any other Southern city. Whether you're looking for great food, world-class art, or an amazing music scene, Birmingham has it all. In this love letter to my hometown, I want to share some of my favorite things about Birmingham and why I am so proud to call it home. The first thing anyone notices about Birmingham is the food. This is a city that knows how to cook, and you can find some of the best barbecue and southern cuisine in the world here. There are so many great restaurants to choose from, but some of my favorites include Saw's BBQ, Big Bob Gibson's, and Dreamland. If you're looking for something a little different, there are also great Italian, Mexican, and Asian restaurants in Birmingham. No matter what you're in the mood for, you can find it here. In addition to great food, Birmingham is also home to some of the best museums and art galleries in the country. The Birmingham Museum of Art is one of the largest and most respected art museums in the Southeast, and it houses an incredible collection of both modern and classical art. The Vulcan Park and Museum is another great option for those interested in learning about Birmingham's history and culture. And if you're looking for something truly unique, don't miss the McWane Science Center, which is one of the best hands-on science museums in the country. Of course, no discussion of Birmingham would be complete without mentioning the music scene. This is a city that has produced some of the most influential musicians of our time, including Alabama Shakes, Emmylou Harris, and Spooner Oldham. Birmingham is also home to a thriving live music scene, with venues like the Iron City and Saturn attracting some of the biggest names in the business. If you're a fan of live music, Birmingham is definitely the place to be. There are so many things to love about Birmingham, and these are just a few of my favorites.
