Description
Alternatives to Violence (AVP) is open to everyone who would like to explore nonviolent conflict resolution and to increase peace in their own lives, in their communities, and in the world. All AVP Spokane workshops draw on the shared experience of participants; using interactive exercises, discussions, games, and roleplays to examine the ways we respond to situations where injustice, prejudice, frustration, and anger can diminish peace and lead to violence. An AVP workshop can help you to: manage strong feelings like anger and fear, deal more effectively with risk and threatening situations, build good relationships with other people, communicate constructively in difficult situations, recognize the conflict management skills you already have, be true to yourself while respecting other people, understand why conflict happens, approach conflict in a more creative and less reactive manner, and consider your own relationship to systems of violence. The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is a volunteer-run conflict transformation program. Teams of trained AVP facilitators conduct experiential workshops to develop participants' abilities to resolve conflicts without resorting to manipulation, coercion, or violence. Although the original workshops were designed and facilitated with Quaker oversight, the project is a non-profit, non-denominational organization. We are back offering workshops in prison, after a long gap due to the pandemic. We are really interested in training more facilitators, in order to expand our ability to offer this life-changing program. Would You Like to Attend an AVP Workshop?
