She received her clinical doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Texas El Paso in 2015 and specializes in treating infants with torticollis, plagiocephaly and gross motor delays. Before starting her own pediatric physical therapy practice, Amreen had experience treating babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) providing quality therapy services to term, pre-term and high-risk infants with diagnoses such as developmental delays and feeding complications. She brings the diagnostic skills she cultivated in the NICU by conducting screening assessments and detailed physical therapy evaluations to each case and family she works with. Why purposeful play matters: Between birth to 3 years a baby's brain grows exponentially due to neurons forming connections and synapses. By the time a child reaches adulthood, synapses are reduced by half. A wide range of sensory and motor experiences in early childhood can produce long lasting changes in the brain. Early experiences have a powerful effect on brain organization during development and in early adulthood. Pediatric Physical Therapists mainly assess your baby’s physical gross motor milestones. Gross motor milestones refer to big movements that our body creates, like rolling, crawling, sitting, walking, jumping, hopping etc. Physical milestones go hand in hand with cognitive processes, vision, anticipatory strategies and so much more. Movements that your baby learns when they perform the milestones help build other milestones.
