Article about The Restless, written June 2022 by Nashville Voyager Magazine: We’d like to introduce you to The Restless. Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? We started playing music separately and eventually decided to team up as “the restless” duo because we loved to write and perform together the most. By the time we graduated from high school, we had performed together in multiple cities/states, including the national education summit in Louisville, Kentucky. Our first EP titled “Coming Alive” was an introduction to who we are. We had the opportunity to perform the songs on WSM Opry Radio Live. In 2020, we met producer Josh Northwood, out of London. We had an idea for a song called “If these walls could talk.” The thoughtful nature of the song was definitely fitting with everything going on in the world. We are currently in the process of releasing a follow-up track called “Shadow” including a music video directed by Lance Goodman, shot entirely in a cabin. “Shadow” is about the past, and how sometimes we carry shadows with us, even after someone has left our life. We feel that the music we have written over the past couple of years is our most honest work yet. It definitely contains pop, rock, and R&B elements that we loved listening to growing up. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect? Most people think that music is a linear path, but it’s more like a zigzag. We went from performing in the music city center in 2019 to having almost no shows in 2020. Coming from a small town to the big pool that is Nashville, has been most difficult. But some of the connections we have made through the struggle, we wouldn’t trade for anything. We don’t give up because we feel like we are telling the stories of our lives through our music. What has pulled us through the most is that we are family. We would have stopped long ago if we weren’t. Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on? We lay the harmony on thick! It’s definitely the signature of what we do. We enjoy listening to other artists that utilize harmonies like Destiny’s Child, Chloe, Halle, and Dan & Shay. We always try to make new harmony parts in our songs. It is also very important to us that our songs tell a story. Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis? People crave connection and to be understood more than ever thought. We didn’t realize how fortunate we were to be performing the number of shows we were per year. It’s an interesting time in music because people are really looking for music that speaks to them. COVID-19 definitely lit a fire in us, because we spent a lot of time daydreaming about what we’d be doing if everything were open.
