The Northeast Mississippi Habitat for Humanity partnered with The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) Build with Strength Coalition to construct a new affordable, low carbon home in Lee County utilizing insulating concrete forms (ICFs), a sustainable, noncombustible concrete building system that reduces upfront construction expenses while maximizing the structure’s durability and energy performance to save homeowners long-term costs on utilities and insurance.
Community members, volunteers, local leaders, and media are invited to a “Behind the Build” event December 1st from 10 AM - 12 PM on the project site 2001 Nelle St Tupelo, 38801, to celebrate the progress made and meet the many people and partners who have helped bring these homes to life.
The event will feature remarks from local leaders, a guided hard-hat tour of the homes, a “block signing ceremony,” and an interactive training on building with ICFs . Importantly, the event will offer an opportunity to meet and celebrate with Lena Ashby, the future Habitat homeowner, who will be moving in with her four children in the spring of 2023.
Since 1984, the NE Mississippi Habitat has helped over 117 families in Lee County achieve their goal of affordable homeownership. The county continues to struggle with an inventory of new, safe, attractive and affordable housing, which has become even more acute as housing prices have continued to rise. To help address this growing need, the land for this project, along with the several others over the past year, has been generously donated by the City of Tupelo.
