SymbiOp Landscaping is seeking an Ecological Landscape Designer, or a Landscape Crew Lead, or an experienced Landscape Worker to join our worker-owned cooperative. This will be a full-time position at around 32-40 hours per week on average. You will be working with our existing coordinators, designers, leads, and workers as a part of our growing team. This position will be paid at $18-30 per hour depending on experience and position. We offer health insurance, paid time off, and retirement account after 90 days. We are in no rush to fill these positions. This is an open vacancy because our team is constantly growing. SymbiOp became a worker cooperative at the beginning of 2020 and has been growing steadily ever since. Our mission is to create landscapes that are good for the people and the planet. We specialize in regenerative ecological landscapes that reverse climate change, restore habitats/wildlife, produce food, and are low maintenance. Ultimately, we want to transform all urban and rural landscapes into food forests and/or native landscapes. We also have a native plant store (SymbiOp Garden Shop) that’s mostly separate from the landscaping business. JOB REQUIREMENTS: • For all positions, 2+ years of professional experience in ecological landscaping or equivalent. • For Crew Lead, additional 1+ year of professional experience as a landscape crew lead (foreman) • For Designer, additional 1+ year of professional experience as a landscape designer, and proficiency in design softwares (We use SketchUp). • Extensive knowledge and experience with native plants, edible plants, and weeds in the Pacific Northwest. • Extensive knowledge and experience in proper landscaping techniques such as pruning, mulching, planting, etc. • Extensive knowledge and experience with landscaping equipment and tools. • Knowledge and experience in building fences, arbors, garden beds, pavers and flagstone patios, and other hardscapes. • Knowledge and experience in regenerative / ecological / indigenous / permaculture / sustainability practices. • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and safely. And sometimes 75 lbs, but rarely. • Comfortable driving a loaded pickup truck. • Ability to respond to work text/email/call from your leads within 1 business days. • Ability to designate 4-5 days per week (Mon-Fri) for full-time. • Ability to work an 8 hour shift per day on average starting at around 7:30am-8:30am (sometimes 6:30am during summer) • Ability to notify your coordinator when your schedule changes at least 2 weeks before. • Avoid planning long vacations during our busy seasons (Springs and Falls). • Willingness to do labor in the heat, cold, rain, and other uncomfortable weather conditions. (We call off work before the weather conditions get to dangerous levels.) • Attention to details. Client centric. Eager to learn new things. • Enjoy plant and ecology related work and don’t see a career change in the next 5+ years • We don’t care if you don't have a degree. • You must attend mandatory all staff meetings on the 1st Tuesday of the month. (All regular meetings and training sessions are paid at $15 per hour for everyone.) • Proof of vaccination against COVID.
